Anca DraguRomania will not adopt the euro by 2018. Instead, the Romanian Government will present the European Commission in 2017 with a plan regarding the adoption of the euro.

EU Member States, Minister of Public Finance Anca Dragu told Realitatea TV, must express their position towards adopting the euro. As a result, in April 2017 the Romanian Government will present to the European Commission, as part of the convergence program, a plan on the adoption of the euro.

Romania cannot adopt the euro by 2018, Minister Dragu added. “It would have been very nice to be able to adopt the euro in 2018, at the anniversary of 18 years of modern history. But such a thing is not possible. Practically, we must have a broad analysis and with firm deadlines, so that the Romanian economy can become flexible and can give up on its own currency and to adopt that of a currency area. I am a supporter [of that],” Anca Dragu said.
